The gambling landscape in Pennsylvania is riding an unprecedented wave of success, as the state's gaming industry has once again shattered records with a staggering $554.6 million in revenue collected across all verticals in March 2024. This figure, a 7.6% increase over the same period last year, marks the second time in just three months that the Keystone State has set a fresh benchmark, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
This remarkable achievement comes on the heels of Pennsylvania's previous record-setting performance in December 2023, when the state's gaming revenue soared to $534.2 million. Fueling this latest triumph is the robust growth of the online gaming sector, which contributed an impressive $191.1 million to the overall figures.
Within the burgeoning online realm, online table games emerged as a driving force, generating $53.1 million – a staggering 31.2% year-over-year increase. Equally impressive was the $135.5 million generated by online slots, representing a 29.3% surge compared to the same period in 2023. Collectively, online gaming revenues surged by an astonishing 29.0% annually, solidifying Pennsylvania's status as a force to be reckoned with in the digital gaming arena.
Leading the charge among the state's land-based operators was Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantsville, which raked in a staggering $88.2 million, an 8.9% increase over the previous year. Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia secured the second spot with $88.0 million, a remarkable 28.4% year-over-year growth. Parx Casino in Philadelphia rounded out the top three with $59.5 million, albeit a 1.5% decline from 2023.
While slot revenue experienced a modest 1.1% uptick to $227.9 million, the standout performers included Rivers Casino Pittsburgh ($25.2 million, up 1.3%), Wind Creek Bethlehem ($27.4 million, up 9.8%), and Parx Casino ($34.3 million, down 2.4%).
In the online gaming sphere, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course once again led the pack with a commanding $72.3 million in iGaming revenue, a 16.0% increase. Valley Forge Casino Resort followed closely with $50.8 million, a staggering 59.7% surge, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia contributed $32.7 million, representing a 7.2% gain.
The sports wagering vertical also played a pivotal role in Pennsylvania's record-breaking month. Valley Forge Casino Resort emerged as the frontrunner, collecting $24.3 million from a sports betting handle of $333.2 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands secured $10.7 million from a $209.2 million handle, while Hollywood Casino Morgantown raked in $1.7 million from a $51.9 million sports wagering handle.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve and expand, Pennsylvania's remarkable performance in March 2024 serves as a testament to the state's ability to capitalize on emerging trends and solidify its position as a gaming powerhouse on the national stage.
